Food Art for Kids summer camp is a daily educational / instructional program for kids 5* to 11 years old. The program runs Monday through Friday, 9 am to 2:45 pm. After care can be arranged. In Brooklyn Heights we are located at the Assumption Church (55 Cranberry St.). On the Upper West Side, we are at W. 93rd St. corner of Broadway. Counselor / child ratio is 1:5.
*Your child may turn 5 by the end of 2017 in order to be eligible for enrollment.
Here is a description of a typical camp day (Monday through Thursday):
*** Brooklyn: Tuesdays and/or Thursdays typically start with a trip to the local farmer’s market. In Manhattan: trip to farmers market occurs on Fridays.
Brooklyn Heights’ GreenMarket is located in Borough Hall. UWS market is on West 97th St. between Columbus and Amsterdam.
We pick our own produce and head back to camp to cook.
We love fresh fruit and vegetables!!!
9:00 – 9:15 Arrival (Early drop off is available starting at 8:30am)
9:15 – 9:30 Morning Meeting: the cooking projects of the day are being discussed; jobs are being assigned
9:30 – 9:45 Set up (the kids wash their hands and get ready for the cooking project)
9:45 – 11:00 AM Cooking Project
11:15 – 12:00 Outdoor time (In Brooklyn, outdoor time will take place at the nearby Cadman Plaza park or Walt Whitman water fountain, and will include free play as well as organized group games. On the UWS we will go to the Tarr-Coyne Wild West playground on W. 93rd and CPW.
12:15 – 12:45 Lunch*
1:00 – 2:15 PM Cooking Projects (we usually have time for 2 cooking projects after lunch)
2:15 – 2:30 Choice time
2:30 – 2:45 End of the Day Meeting
2:45 – Dismissal
* Please send lunch with your child every day except for Fridays. (-Thursdays on the UWS)
in Brooklyn, Fridays are our pizza party days. The kids make pizza from scratch (dough and all) and top it with their favorite toppings. On that day we also make ice cream in a bag for dessert. In Manhattan, pizza parties are on Thursdays.
